  • NCShare Campus Cyberinfrastructure: Connect, Collaborate, Create Workshop

    North Carolina Central University

    This innovative day of interactive sessions brought people together to share ideas, explore partnerships and strengthen multi-campus proposals using NCShare’s shared research infrastructure.

    Topics included how researchers are leveraging NCShare, insights into the 2026 federal funding landscape, and practical ways to incorporate shared cyberinfrastructure in competitive proposals. The day concluded with a networking event to encourage further collaboration among institutions.

  • Sharing AI Compute in the Global South Workshop

    January 30, 2026
    Duke University

    This workshop was an official pre-summit event for the AI Impact Summit 2026. The workshop covered how compute resource sharing works in practice at both an institutional level (the Duke Compute Cluster) and a statewide level (NCShare), including lessons from contribution-based access and reallocating idle capacity to maximize resource utilization while broadening access across communities. It also explored how these models—along with the technology, governance, and policy required to make them work—can inform approaches for scaling shared compute across geographic boundaries.

  • HybriD3 Materials Theory Training Workshop (in-person)

    November 21-22, 2025
    Duke University

    A NSF-funded multi-institutional workshop focusing on materials theory simulations organized by Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University was held on Nov 21-22 at Duke University with ~70 participants from across the state and beyond. The hands-on session of the workshop utilized NCShare resources through custom Apptainer containers to run materials simulations and analysis through MPI batch jobs and Open OnDemand Jupyter Notebooks.

  • NCShare Site Visit to Appalachian State

    Members of the NCShare leadership team traveled to meet with colleagues at Appalachian State University. The day included meetings to discuss NCShare training needs, infrastructure enhancements, and collaboration across the state. It also included a wonderful evening reception, featuring food and drinks made at Appalachian State University.

    The Fall webinar – will celebrate NCShare’s initial success, welcome interested participants, as well as provide an opportunity to network with colleagues in the state.

    The same webinar will be offered on different dates. You are encouraged to attend the one that works best for you.

    Both webinars will start at 10 a.m. and end by 11:30 a.m. They will be recorded but not shared for a while after the event.

    Join peer researchers/instructors for a demo and Information Session from 3 – 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 21, via Zoom, to learn more about how the network tools are working. Our goal is to attract a vibrant group of researchers and educators who will form a Community of Practice (CoP), advancing the development of the NCShare network. The CoP will work to expand and improve the exchange of ideas and increase collaboration in North Carolina regarding the software and services needed for research. This information session is the start to many of these engagements.

This session will be great for researchers, IT leaders and academic leaders. We are looking for additional institutions to join the NCShare network in spring 2023.
