NCShare Visit to Appalachian State University Focuses on Strategic Alignment

March 5, 2026

On November 20, 2025, NCShare’s leadership team traveled to meet with colleagues at Appalachian State University. The day included meetings to discuss NCShare’s training needs, infrastructure enhancements, and collaboration across the state.

“The NCShare site visit in November highlighted the power of intentional, face-to-face collaboration,” said Keith Werner, chief information officer at Appalachian State. “It wasn’t just a presentation, but a high-level strategy session.”

The visit demonstrated the deep alignment between NCShare’s resources and Appalachian State’s specific institutional goals. It also included an evening reception featuring food and drinks made on university’s campus.

Werner said that Appalachian State’s recent elevation to R2 status makes its partnership with NCShare particularly valuable.

“By bridging the gap between statewide infrastructure and local campus needs, NCShare provides us with a scalable framework for innovation that would be difficult to achieve in isolation,” said Werner. “For any institution looking to amplify their impact, collaborating with the NCShare team offers a rare blend of technical expertise and a genuine commitment to the success of North Carolina’s students.

NCShare is planning additional site visits with institutions across the state. Institutions interested in scheduling a visit can contact info@ncshare.org.
